Friction stir welding (FSW) was applied to a 10 mm-thick plate for the Fe-15Mn-10Cr-8Ni-4Si seismic damping alloy. A sound FSW joint obtained successfully without macro-defects such as groove-like defects and tunnel holes. However, small pores with diameters of 1–5 μm were formed owing wear tool during FSW. The decrease in heat input suppressed wear. Consequently, distribution limited border zone at advancing side under smaller conditions. specimen produced 125 rpm showed higher tensile strength 759 MPa grain refinement high elongation 50% compared base metal. In addition, exhibited remarkable fatigue life 9,723 cycles. This than that metal (8,908 cycles). Grain occurred by discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) via high-angle boundary bulging direct nucleation high-dislocation area. increase DDRX promotion recovery.
